Flex Credit
Guidance Flex Credit
Dear Parents and Students:
The State Board of Education, based on Ohio Senate Bill 311, has adopted a Credit Flexibility Plan enabling students to "earn units of high school credit based on a demonstration of subject area competency, instead of or in combination with completing hours of classroom instruction." Ohio's plan is designed to broaden the scope of curricular options available to students. Students may earn high school credit by:
a) completing coursework;
b) testing out or demonstrating mastery of course content; and/or
c) pursuing one or more educational options (e.g. online learning, dual credit, educational travel, independent study).
Students electing to take advantage of this opportunity must complete the Credit Flexibility Application with the Credit Flex Access Plan and submit it to the high school principal by March 30 of the preceding school year for the fall semester and by November 1 for the spring semester (Post-Secondary Enrollment Option's application is possible only at the March 30 deadline). Applicants will receive notification approval/denial within thirty (30) calendar days.
