What a wonderful night of holiday classics at the MS/HS Christmas Choir Concert this evening! Under the direction of Miss Mutter, each choir sang a selection of holiday tunes. It was a great showcase of the talent of our students and their Director. We would like to send a heartfelt thanks to those who came out to support our students.

Students in 8th grade Science recently studied the effects of earthquakes. To experiment students were asked to build a 5 story tower, within a certain budget that could survive an earthquake and hold weight. Mrs. Garison is super proud of all the students and their hard work! She shared that the students were surprised with their results as well!

Miss Edens' 7th grade classes attended a field trip to Cincinnati to watch the Cyclones take on the Fort Wayne Komets. Educational standards were integrated into the game during pre-game and both intermissions. For many of our students, this was their first time attending a hockey game! A good time was had by all!

Our students in Mrs. Gevedon’s sixth grade Social Studies classes have been learning about topographic maps and their real world applications. Students experienced an augmented reality sandbox, which allowed students to create different geographic formations while computer software and sensor identified elevation changes in the sand. Contour lines projected by the program allowed students to identify rapid and gentle elevation changes. Students also built Play-Doh mountains which they cross-sectioned into layers. These layers were then traced to create a topographic map of their landform. Students used the contour lines they created to identify steep and gradual elevation changes of their mountains. Finally, one activity allowed students explore part of our school grounds. Using topographic maps of the school property, students were able to connect the elevation changes on their maps with what they were seeing in the real world. A special thanks to Coyle SWPPP Professionals for the use of the AR Sandbox and for providing topographic maps of the school grounds.

Last Wednesday, Gebhart Counseling trained the staff on QPR (Question, Persuade & Refer), how to recognize signs of suicide and how to help prevent suicide. The staff also participated in Safety Training , provided by the Preble County Sheriff's Office. The training included scenarios that could happen within and around the building, safety concerns from the staff and how to respond during a lockdown.
